Update from
The Beach Church!

Hello,
I want to share with you some information that’s going on at our church following our council meeting this week.

MUSIC: Our organist, Dr. Mike Plunkett, is going to be recovering from shoulder and hip surgery, so we will be having special musicians fill in, including Cori and Konstantin Bilyayev. The church will paying a stipend, so please consider additional contributions.

NAVY POINT: Thanks for your generous donations of money, underwear and other items for the students at Navy Point Elementary School. The church appreciates the participation of the Pensacola Beach Chamber of Commerce and The Reef restaurant. The total value of money and gifts exceeded $1,500. And thanks to Dale and Ron Hensley for leading the effort.

FULL MOON FELLOWSHIP: Our next full moon fellowship get-together will be Tuesday, Aug. 29 at the Hensley's’ place. It’s actually the day before the full moon, but the moon rises on Tuesday before 7 p.m. instead of later so we’re going to meet at 6 p.m.

REV. JIM: Rev. Jim is taking a much-deserved vacation over the next two weeks, although he’ll be busy moving into his new home with his family.

REPAIRS: The women’s restroom in the sanctuary has been repaired following the termite issue. The repairs were completed under warranty, so it did not cost the church any money.

We are working on finding the water leak underground and it looks like the ECUA will forgive some of the extra billing.

BYLAWS: The council is reviewing the bylaws proposal from the committee and plans to have an information meeting with the congregation in October before we hold a vote to change them.

Our next council meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m. in Randle Hall. Members of the congregation are always welcome. Please email me at gordonpaulus@hotmail.com or call me at 850-525-7510 if you need to reach me.

Yours in Christ,

Gordon Paulus
Council president

Want to avoid taxation in your IRA distributions (and it’s legal!)?

Normally, distributions from a traditional individual retirement arrangement (IRA) are taxable when received. With a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD),  however, these distributions become tax-free as long as they're paid directly from the IRA to an eligible charitable organization.

This information is from the IRS.gov website:

QCDs can be made electronically, directly to the charity, or by check payable to the charity.

An IRA distribution, such as an electronic payment made directly to the IRA owner, does not count as a QCD. Likewise, a check made payable to the IRA owner is not a QCD.

Each year, an IRA owner age 70½ or over can exclude from gross income up to $100,000 of these QCDs. For a married couple, if both spouses are age 70½ or over and both have IRAs, each spouse can exclude up to $100,000 for a total of up to $200,000 per year.

The QCD option is available regardless of whether an eligible IRA owner itemizes deductions on Schedule A.

Please contact Dale Hensley if you have any questions.
