I grew up in the Chicago Suburbs, attended college at Miami University (Oxford, OH)

and received my seminary training at Garrett Theological Seminary. In May of 2011,

I was ordained by the United Church of Christ. Prior to my service on Pensacola Beach,

I served as Pastor of St. Paul, UCC, in Chelsea, MI.

I was born to be a minister, but it took me 30 years to figure that out.

Growing up, ordained ministry wasn't the sort of thing we discussed in my house

and it wasn't ever part of college and career night in high school. I was a member of

our church's youth group, but honestly that was mostly about the cute girls who attended

and the annual ski trip. I remember our pastor usually wore a clerical collar and I

recall thinking, "how could anyone choose a career that forced them to wear

something so uncomfortable?" Surely, the pastor's life was not for me.

God's call to this vocation is present in my DNA.

It's a skill-set and an orientation that spent several decades in the background

of my life and quietly introduced itself to me about the time our first child was born.

I am highly empathic to the human condition. My faith gives form, language, purpose

and direction to my life. Authorized ministry, for me, is the joy and challenge of working

with colleagues who also feel compelled to share the good news; that God is up to

something in this world, right now, and we are invited to be a part of it.

I've served as a Youth Director, a long term supply preacher, a student pastor,

a hospital chaplain and as the installed sole pastor of a small church. I've served God

as a husband, a father, a son, a marketing director, a friend and a neighbor.

And at one time or another I have failed God in all of the above. Over the past five

decades of my life I have been richly blessed by the Grace and Peace of Jesus.

He is the one who blesses my life with purpose and a sense of direction. He is as

near as your next breath, but if you feel you need help withan introduction to Him,

stop-by our church sometime and we can begin with a conversation.

Can’t wait to see you on the beach!

Grace and Peace,

Jim
